The Living Year Collection is a seasonal study of flowering plants and native wildlife observed month by month across the British year. Each painting corresponds broadly to annual cycles, focussing on species that naturally appear, flower, fruit or are most active in each calendar month. The series follows ecological timing allowing overlap, variation and subtle transition between months.
Flowers are depicted in various stages of growth and wildlife is included as a co-presence, representing the pollinators and seed dispersers that participate directly in the cycle of life in the British countryside.
Taken as a whole, this collection of watercolours functions as a living calendar of seasonal change.
